Formaleta - (Schizolobium parahybum)
Formaleta – (Gallinazo) The one exception to the rule, a softwood. Incredibly fast growing and in high demand. Used in construction the world over for concrete forms and other basic requirements. Due to it’s growth rate this timber can be grown over a 12 year period, with harvests normally due after 3 years and every year thereafter.
It's ironic that one of the cheapest timbers we grow, is also the most profitable. Demand for formwork timber has increased massivly as more and more houses are now built from concrete rather than timber due to the high costs of timber.
It's now cheaper to build a house from concrete than Teak.
Formaleta - the spanish for formwork timber does not have any of the unique characters of Teak. It's inexpensive and in high demand.
According to the ONF (Costa Rica's National Forestry Office) Formaleta prices increased by 17% between 2006 and 2007
